What are “The Vagina Monologues”?

Award-winning play based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women's sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than twelve years, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public.

Hailed by The New York Times as "funny" and "poignant" and by the Daily News as "intelligent" and "courageous," The Vagina Monologues, which was first performed off-Broadway by Ms. Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences.

Ms. Ensler has performed the play to great acclaim throughout the world - from Zagreb to Santa Barbara, from London to Seattle, from Manila to Oklahoma City.

[“The Vagina Monologues” is] a work which is inescapably universal for women, and manages to be feminist without being man-hating, entertaining without being trite, and political without being earnest.
—The London Telegraph

"In the current era, it takes some brain racking to think of anyone else doing anything quite like Ensler.  She's a countercultural consciousness raiser, an emmpowering figure, a truth-teller." —Chicago Tribune

“Eve Ensler wants to save the world...and don't even think of getting in her way."
-New York Times Magazine
