Gloria T. Caoile ('07 FWN100) threw the first pitch at the Oakland A's Filipino Heritage Game last August 19, 2011. This is the first time a Filipino had the honor of throwing the ceremonial pitch at a major sports franchise. Another young Pinay, Amber Lily of Radio Disney, sang the national anthems of the United States and Canada. WOW! Pinay Power talaga! The Oakland A's won.
California Governor Jerry Brown appointed Judge Rosa Moran, 50, of Oakland, to serve as administrative director of the Division of Workers' Compensation, a state post. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $132,179. Moran has served as a workers' compensation judge since 2005. Prior to this, she spent 17 years in private practice. She is a member of the Oakland Bench and Bar Association, the Filipina Women's Network, the University of San Francisco Alumni Association, and the University of the Pacific Alumni Association.
Dr. Jasmine Therese Esguerra opened Pure Wellness International July 28, 2011. The center's wellness services include health screenings, LOVE healing, mind mapping, bio optic holography, outcome facilitation.
