The Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) is the Filipino organization with a campaign to end violence against Filipina women and girls. FWN is proud to collaborate once again with Eve Ensler’s V-Day organization to expand its anti-violence educational and awareness campaign launched in January 2004.
The “Filipinas Against Violence” campaign is about helping Filipina women "break their silence" and encourage them to seek help, raise money for domestic violence training and community outreach programs and increase awareness in the Filipino community about domestic violence perpetrated on Filipina women and girls.
FWN needs continued funding to accomplish the following goals:
- The cast and crew members of the 2006 production of FWN's The Vagina Monologues are now required to attend a three-hour domestic violence training workshop facilitated by the Asian Women's Shelter and API Legal Outreach. This training initiative will allow FWN members to become trained domestic violence advocates and peer counselors in the fight to end domestic violence in the Filipino community. FWN needs funding to expand the program to all FWN members and supporters, and for the development of workshop materials, promotional flyers and advertising, meeting venues and community outreach.
- Publish the V-Diaries, FWN’s anti-violence resource and help guide. The V-Diaries will address cultural and power issues around violence including resources for Filipina women in abusive relationships at home and in the workplace. The guide will have information for both batterers and victims about intervention actions on how to seek help in order to change what is happening in their homes or might happen in another’s affairs, in order to prevent something undesirable happening. A 25,000 print run will be distributed in select zip codes as a supplement in San Francisco Bay Area publications.
- Produce two performances of “The Vagina Monologues” with all Filipina performance on February 26, 2006 at the Herbst Theatre. The first Tagalog version of "The Vagina Monologues" titled "Usaping Puki"in the U. S. will premiere during the matinee performance. The evening performance will be in English. Proceeds will benefit the My Sister's Shelter, Filipinas Against Violence Campaign and V-Day’s 2006 Spotlight “Justice to Comfort Women”. On the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II, V-Day joins women and men around the world in calling for justice to ‘Comfort Women’ survivors.
