"A Search For Our Future:  Coming Together As A Community On How To Advance Filipina Women in the U.S. Workplace"

Future Search Steering Committee

Our Future Search Task:  How To Advance Filipina Women in the U.S. Workplace

How To Join The Steering Committee

Composition of the Steering Committee :
  • The Steering Committee will be doing the pre-planning work to convene the Filipina Summit's Future Search Conference that will last 2 1/2 days.
  • Ideally, each committee member should represent one of FWN's identified stakeholder groups.  This makes it easier to identify other stakeholders for the Summit.
  • A stakeholder in a Future Search is a person who:
    • May be affected by the outcome of the Future Search.
    • Might have an impact on the task/issue, be able to move it forward or hold it back.
    • Has resources that might be available to support the outcome.
    • Has information that will be important to the task/issue that will be undertaken in the Future Search.
  • The Committee will identify and invite a broad cross-section of stakholders to the Summit.  (If we don't assemble an unusual group, one that makes us a little anxious and excited, it's probably not the ideal group.)  This should be an event different from the usual.
  • Our goal is to have a minimum of eight representatives from each stakeholder group (at least 96 participants).
  • FWN's identified stakeholder groups are:
    1. FWN Members
    2. Fortune 500 Organizations That Have Large Filipino Employee Populations: Representatitves from the Diversity, Human Resources, Organizational Development Departments
    3. Youth Leaders and Young Filipino Professionals
    4. Government Leaders and Elected Officials - U. S. and the Philippines
    5. Filipino Associations - Board Members
    6. Learning Institutions
    7. Media and Labor Sectors
    8. Public & Private Funders & Lenders
    9. Community Leaders
    10. Business Owners, Chambers & Trade Groups
    11. Faith-based Organizations
    12. Nonprofit Organizations

Our criteria for stakeholder invites are -

  1. Determine which group an invitee will represent.
  2. Determine if this person fits any of the following requirements (as related to their particular field)
  3. Will this person be able to help us with our task - scenarios on "How To Advance Filipina Women in the U.S. workplace" ?
  4. Does this person have:
    • Authority (in their particular stakeholder group). Is s/he a decision maker, influencer, etc.?
    • Resources - What can s/he offer in resources? Examples - employment, workforce development. For instance, as an elected official or someone who works for elected officials, can s/he influence legislation?
    • Expertise - What particular area of expertise can s/he bring to the Future Search?
    • Information - Has s/he worked with Filipina/o populations or individuals before? In what capacity? (hiring, firing, development, policy making, election stats, etc.)
    • Need - How will s/he benefit from attending the Future Search? Does s/he have programs for minorities? For example, labor unions represent the needs of large numbers of Filipino employees.
